The District includes the coastline both west and east of
Weymouth, from Abbotsbury to Whitenose, and extends inland as
far as the hills above Blackmoor Vale.
lt covers some two hundred square miles in area. The massive chalk downs of Dorset, which continue the elevations formed by Salisbury Plain and Cranborne Chase, curve around the District-like a horseshoe enclosing it on the north and west and returning midway between Dorchester and Weymouth as the Ridgeway to link in with the Purbeck Hills.
